(More customer reviews)I bought this Toshiba portable drive when it was marked down for an Amazon Today's Deal. I needed something for my Macbook, but didn't want to pay more than $100 for a MyPassport drive. (This one was half that price.) I also really don't care for the Iomegas in the Apple store.
After a quick search on the Toshiba site, it appeared that this was, in fact, Mac compatible. When it arrived, the box only had Windows logos, so I was a little concerned.
However, when I plugged in the drive and selected Time Machine, the Mac read the drive. I selected it for Time Machine backup. Time Machine said it needed to be reformatted before it would work. I hit OK, since it was a new drive and had no data. It reformatted immediately, then backed up my content. I double-checked everything after the backup, and it seems to have worked beautifully.
This portable drive is not heavy, but it is not so cheap that it feels like you are holding a thin piece of plastic. It isn't too big, either, so it doesn't take up a lot of room in my computer bag.
