(More customer reviews)Just two words for whoever is planning to migrate a HD into a SSD drive: backup frequently.
I've purchased a 128GB 1.8" ZIF Kingspec SSD three months ago, to upgrade the disk capacity of my Dell D430.
After 2 months of operation, happy with the new processing speed (well, part because I had a WinXP reinstall),
one day the computer just died, sending a plastic burning smell.
By inspecting the drive, I noticed that the plastic insulation between some pins had melted,
causing a short circuit which probably damaged both the SSD drive and my notebook circuitry
(I tested the D430 with other drives but it doesn't recognize any).
Back to the issue: at the time of failure, the notebook had been working non-stop for 5 hours, in the same place, being used in editing product pictures and email them. The notebook fan was functioning, the office's air conditioning too. Just to make the point, the PC was logically, mechanically and environmentally stable.
So the suspicion went to component failure, which sent me to read Kingspec's warranty card. It has a disclaimer in Chinese and by the prhase-by-phrase translation in English I could more or less assemble this: "warranty void in case a malfunction from improper placement of connectors".I cannot agree more with that phrase from the manufacturer, and clearly this wasn't my case, since it had been already installed for 3 months, and the stable operating conditions as explained before.
The point is, how can you dispute such broad disclaimer, after it melts down?
So the hard lesson learned here: post factory installation of SSDs are still not adequate for some subcompact notebooks not designed for them, and if you try to adventure into installing them, do frequent backups!
