I wanted a USB drive, 1TB, which would work right out of the box on both my Mac and my Windows laptops.
Got the Samsung yesterday, plugged it into the Mac, bingo! There it was. I copied some files to it, ejected it.
Plugged it into the Windows machine, bingo! There it was. I had to tell Windows to just open it (not copy software, show pictures, etc. etc. etc.), and there were the files! No muss, no fuss. No excitement, no hassle, no formatting, no nothing. Just worked.
The ONLY problem I had was that Windows refused to give me an "eject" or "disconnect" option for it, but that is apparently a common Windows USB drive problem, and is clearly in Windows' bailiwick, not Samsung's. Simplest solution was to just turn the Windows machine off and remove the drive.
So now I have exactly what I want, the equivalent of a 1TB thumb drive, which I can use for file transport to any machine I'm likely to find. I can take it on the road (it comes with a nice little pouch, although that's not big enough to hold the USB cable), leave it home, whatever. No power cords or packs to fiddle with, and it basically would fit in a pocket.
