(More customer reviews)I purchased this HDD as a replacement for my girlfriend's faulty iPod 4th Generation 40Gb drive, which was making ticking and grinding sounds. I had tried resetting it, as well as the high-tech 'bang it on the desk' solution - all to no avail.
The drive arrived very well packaged and protected. Installation was a breeze (I had never pulled apart an iPod before, but there were plenty of instructional videos on the Induhnet). The new drive works perfectly.
The only negative was that the white plastic surround that fits on top of the drive (before the metal back of the iPod goes on) did not fit perfectly - the old drive had indented grooves, but the new one didn't. This was relatively easy to fix by using a small file to file the protruding bits off of the surround.
Total cost was about USD$37 - sure beats paying Apple a hell of a lot more for the same job.
